Working together to reduce the cost of absenteeism

About Struijs, the transport company and the working conditions alternative

It is not insurance considerations that should be the central issue but the reduction of absenteeism through illness. That is the principle employed by Struijs Employee Benefits for the companies on its client list. That is also the case for the transport company Kuiper Transport & Zn. from Heerhugowaard – for years a valued client. Average absenteeism in the transport sector is at around 6%. However, at Kuiper Transport that figure has for a long time been at around 2.5% - a question of good human resources management. Yet, this had not been taken into account at all in Kuiper Transport’s working conditions contract and absenteeism insurance. They had to pay for that 6% average without it being much to their benefit. In consultation with Struijs, Geert Kuiper, the managing director of Kuiper Transport, decided on an alternative: VerzuimGrip. The great strength of the concept was to remove the medical bias. This arose out of the consideration that much reported illness has more to do with work or personal problems than with medical complaints. By responding to the situation quickly, absenteeism through illness is considerably reduced. Moreover, this solution means that entrepreneurs need only have one focus on which all the parties are united - the working conditions service, insurer and employer alike – reducing the cost of absenteeism. The recommendation to choose VerzuimGrip shows what Struijs stands for: results, simplicity and a precision approach.
